Principal
Richard joined Stephen Perse Cambridge as Principal in August 2020. He was formerly the Surmaster (Head of the Senior School) at St Paul’s School in London, a position he held for eight years. Richard has worked in education for 17 years as a teacher of mathematics, as pastoral and boarding house tutor, and coach of athletics and rugby. Raised in Belfast, Richard read Engineering at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, where he also completed his PGCE while representing the university and his country in rugby league, winning a Blue. Richard has served as a governor at both King’s House School (a nursery, pre-prep and preparatory school in Richmond-upon-Thames) and All Saints’ Catholic College (formerly Sion-Manning RC Girls’ school, an 11-16 senior school, which recently became co-educational). He has also been the independent schools’ representative on the Richmond and Kingston Local Safeguarding Children’s Board and a keen supporter of the work of the Integrated Education Fund of Northern Ireland.
Vice Principal and Head 11-18
Stephen has been a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Stephen Perse Cambridge since 2018 and was appointed as Head 11-18 in September 2022. Previous to this Stephen was Senior Deputy Head 11-18. Stephen works closely with the Principal, Executive team and the Board of Governors overseeing, developing and improving the quality of education offered to 11-18 pupils. In addition to the role of Senior Deputy Head, he has held various other senior leadership positions during his career, including Deputy Head Academic and Head of Sixth Form. Stephen has also taught at Cambridge University, supervising Mathematics, and co-authored over twenty Mathematics textbooks for A Level and the International Baccalaureate. He holds Masters degrees in both Mathematics and in Mathematics Education from Trinity College, Cambridge.
Executive Director
Heidi Hall is the Executive Director for Stephen Perse Cambridge. Heidi is a senior leader with experience of strategic leadership across education, the Arts and the creative industries, with a broad experience within the not-for-profit sector as a governor, trustee and mentor. Heidi is a renowned influencer and a committed advocate for those excluded from participation in Arts, Culture and Education. She has also led on creative projects including the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2018 Heidi was recognised by the annual Third Sector Awards for her successful leadership, winning the Rising Chief Executive Award. She is a Trustee of Ballet Black and the Southbank Sinfonia at St. John's Smith Square in Westminster. Heidi was previously the Director of Central School of Ballet in London where she led a Capital Campaign raising £10m to move the school to new premises on London’s South Bank. Through Heidi’s leadership, in February 2020 Central's new home was opened by and named after their Royal Patron, HRH The Countess of Wessex. Heidi is committed and passionate about creating equal educational opportunities for all young people.
Chief Financial and Operating Officer
Sarah joined Stephen Perse Cambridge as Chief Financial and Operating Officer in October 2023. She read Natural Sciences at Selwyn College, Cambridge University before training as a Chartered Management Accountant whilst working at Procter & Gamble. Since then, she has gained broad strategic, commercial, performance, planning and financial experience across the public and private sector, including working at KPMG, Department of Health and UCLH NHS Foundation Trust. Prior to joining Stephen Perse, Sarah was the Bursar of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University. Sarah’s responsibilities include Finance, Facilities Management, Estates Development, Catering, Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability.
Chief Compliance Officer and General Legal Counsel
Sarah joined Stephen Perse Cambridge in 2017 and was promoted to Chief Compliance Officer and General Legal Counsel in 2023. Sarah read French and Italian at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. She taught English as a foreign language in schools in both Italy and France before qualifying as a solicitor, specialising in dispute resolution. She spent three years at a leading London law firm before moving to a Cambridge law firm in 2012. Sarah is responsible for all areas of regulatory compliance, including data protection, policy drafting, school inspection readiness, negotiating and drafting contracts and provides general in-house legal advice. She remains a practising solicitor. Sarah is an elected parent Governor of the University of Cambridge Primary School.
Chief Information Officer
Andrew joined Stephen Perse Cambridge in 2015 and was promoted to Chief Information Officer in 2024, overseeing the IT, Data and Marketing strategic direction and operations. He has many years' experience of managing IT departments and networks, and has developed the school's IT network as the Foundation has added several new sites over the past 10 years. Outside of school, Andrew holds a First Class degree in Business Management, and is a sub-3-hour marathon runner as well as completing all six World Marathon Majors.
Senior Deputy Head 11-18
Abbey Jones first joined Stephen Perse Cambridge in 2010 on completion of her PGCE at Cambridge as a newly qualified teacher of Classics. During her first few years here, she completed her MEd at Cambridge, as well as taking on several different roles, including Charities Coordinator, PSHE and Citizenship Coordinator, Assistant Head of Key Stage and Head of Year, before spending five years at Deputy Head of Senior School. She then left to take the position of Deputy Head (Pastoral) and Designated Safeguarding Lead 4-18 at Haberdashers' Girls' School in Elstree before returning to SPF two years later as Senior Deputy Head 11-18. Abbey is on the School Council for Wellingborough School in Northamptonshire.
Head of Junior School
David previously worked at Dame Bradbury’s School, and was promoted to Head of Cambridge Junior School in 2019. He has enjoyed many roles at our schools: form teacher, head of boys' sport, science coordinator and taking charge of shaping the direction of digital learning within the junior schools. Outside of school, he enjoys venturing off to the coast for beach games, family walks and surfing.
Head of Junior School Dame Bradbury's
James McCaughran joined Stephen Perse Cambridge as Head of Dame Bradbury's in September 2022 directly from his role as Deputy Head Teacher at Ipswich Prep School. James was Deputy Head at Ipswich Prep School for seven years where he led on delivering excellent academic, co-curricular and pastoral care for the whole school community. In this role he also led the Prep community as Digital Lead and Head of Computing providing a stimulating digital curriculum to inspire the next generation of digital citizens. Previous to his role in Ipswich, James held the post of Director of Co-curriculum at the Perse Prep School in Cambridge, where he was responsible for creating and implementing a vision for an outstanding enrichment programme.
Head of Early Years
Sarah has taught in and led Early Years departments in both state and independent schools, and is passionate about children's early educational experiences. She believes that if we can give the children confidence, independence and maintain their natural curiosity, they will be well-equipped for the next stop in their school experience.
Head of Pre-Prep
Alice brings with her a wealth of knowledge, having held several senior roles across many areas at Stephen Perse Cambridge for a number of years. Before holding her current position of Director of Educational Strategy, Alice was Head of School and Head of Curriculum, working across the 3-11 age range at our Junior School sites, both in Cambridge and in Saffron Walden. Alice prides herself on knowing staff, students and parents well. It is one of her greatest pleasures to have had the opportunity to observe many students and families continue their educational journeys successfully from Junior School to Senior School, Sixth Form and beyond. As Director of Educational Strategy, Alice is able to use her experience to maintain and drive innovation and creativity across our Junior Schools to keep the Foundation at the forefront of education, preparing students for their continued development. Having studied maths at university here in Cambridge and represented the university for netball, she is known for a particular passion for maths and still teaches PE to students aged 3-7 across our Early Years and Junior School settings, both in Cambridge and Saffron Walden.
